Who We Are:
The Northwest Mushroomers Association (NMA)
was established in 1989
to promote the understanding and appreciation of mushrooms and to further the study of mycology in Whatcom County, Washington, USA.
We meet the second Thursday of the month during Fall and Spring in the evening to plan forays and
to educate each other about mushrooms. We often have highly qualified guest
speakers from far afield who love to visit because of our abundant mushrooms.
Group forays are usually held the weekend following each club meeting.
Members receive specific time and location information for each foray by e-mail.
Our more expert members are usually available to share their knowledge of
species identification and habitat with less experienced members.
Many great cooks share their mushroom dishes with one another at the annual
spring survivor's banquet, and various foray potlucks.
Once a year we sponsor a large scale event to
educate the general public about
mushrooms. In the past this has been either a large scale mushroom show, or
a well-publicized outdoor open-invitation foray.
